a good start

This book covers many of the major Christian symbols and has a short discription of each one that is typically concise and sometimes only a few sentences long. The pictures of each symbol are all black and white but usually pretty large with only one example of each. I think this book is worth it for the number of symbols it covers. It also has decent references if you are interested in more information.

This book, although smaller than I expected, is PACKED, with designs and concise explanations of common and uncommon Christian symbols. The author has even included many not well known symbols, symbols unknown except to antiquity and their histories. My intent is to incorporate some of these symbols in jewelry and art of my original design. With th information and articles provided in this book, that will be easy. Well worth the money. DEFINITELY recommend this book.

Definitely a Go-To Book

Nicholas Isherwood's book is proving a great resource for both teaching and performing.

As a teacher, this book is a wonderful resource for my students to get an overview of singing, especially the special demands of singing contemporary music. The contextualization of many of the "extended techniques" offered by Isherwood has made this music seem less intimidating and more approachable to many students!

As a performer, I fell in love with the repertoire chart at the back of the book. It is amazing to find many repertoire possibilities all in one place - and compiled by an active and very successful performer is even better!

I highly recommend this book for all voice teachers and classical singers.

Techniques of Singing, by Nicholas Isherwood, is a fantastic collection of contemporary vocal techniques and repertoire. This text is written by a performer and composer of both experience and ability...so the insights offered are earned and tested by this author. The wide ranging topics, such as microtonality, extreme registers, extended techniques, etc, are presented in a clear, concise, and thorough manor. I highly recommend this text for both performers and composers.

An excellent book, which should be required reading for any singer who intends to perform vocal music of the last 70 years

This an excellent book, which should be required reading for any singer who intends to perform vocal music of the last 70 years (or indeed the last 100, if one takes Schönberg's _Pierrot Lunaire_ as the watershed). Not only does Isherwood catalogue the numerous vocal techniques which composers have specified and clarifies the (often contradictory) explanations which they gave – which alone would make this book immensely valuable – he gives practical advice and exercises for each, and examples both in print and on the attached CD. Here Isherwood's extensive experience both as a performer and as a teacher of this repertoire shines through.
The book is aimed primarily at singers who have already mastered bel canto technique and seek to venture out of the “walled garden” into the wider world, which is probably the most common case. For performers coming from another direction (such as improvised vocal performance) the book will be less immediately accessible, but to succeed in this repertoire these singers will need to study classical technique anyway because for better or for worse most composers implicitly assume its presence.
Speaking of composers they too should read this book, or at least the first two chapters where Isherwood lists vocal and electro-vocal techniques and chapter 9, as it may help them avoid writing passages which “yield an unsatisfactory result from a singer with excellent technique and a disastrous result from one with mediocre technique”.
It is a pity that those singers for whom (apparently) musical civilisation ended with the outbreak of the Great War wil probably not open this book, because as Isherwood points out great singers of the past such as Fyodor Chaliapin have used many of the techniques described in the performance of classical and romantic music. Even a singer as “mainstream” as Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau can be heard by the careful listener to use an astonishing variety of vocal registers melded by technique and taste into a single “DFD sound”.
For some readers the book may be too short, leaving them with a hunger for more. They should hunt Isherwood down at one of his masterclasses.

It's OK if you plan to score below 650 in quantative section

I had purchased this book in order to study more comprehensively about a single subject of geometry. The book fell far away from my expectations. The geometry reviews and formulas included in the book have an extremely narrow focus. The Level of the examples and questions presented in the book can be placed somewhere between very easy and easy,they do not give you a good geometry work out at all. The only good thing about the book is that they give you free 1 year online access to manhattan gre web site where you can have additional tests and also study for the verbal section.
so if you're willing to settle down for a score not much more than 600, this book can help you without getting you into so much trouble.

Not as advanced as I expected

This would probably be a good starter book for someone who was lost on how to even approach basic GRE geometry problems. It even spends a few *pages* describing how to set up an equation based on a geometric figure. For some reason, I was under the impression it would help me get from an already high level to the top, but this was a false impression. That said, it did provide a couple of problems that threw me for a loop, and went into my "tricky problems" collection. For those looking for practice on advanced problems, I would recommend the GRE Math Prep Course (Nova's GRE Prep Course) (formerly Math Bible).

The very best thing about this book, though, and it is well worth the price, is the access to the online, computer-adaptive practice tests. You can take them up to 6 times without seeing the same problem twice, and I suppose, if you improved a great deal, you could do it more times than that. This includes practice on all sections, not just quantitative. This is invaluable, and getting access through buying the book costs less than half of what they sell it for on their website.

The gun had a maximum range of 16,916 meters with a rate of fire of one round every two minutes. The engine was mounted in the front and drove through a front-drive sprocket. The driver's cupola is visible on the front left of the turret, and spare track blocks were stored on the turret front. The M55 saw action during the Vietnam War, and was then withdrawn from US military service. Created in 1957, this field manual reveals a great deal about the M53’s design and capabilities. Intended as a commander’s manual for training crew members, it details many methods of attaining effecient teamwork while operating the gun. Drills are described in detail, with the ultimate goal being the successful operation of the M53 and M55 on the battlefield. Originally labeled restricted, this manual was declassified long ago and is here reprinted in book form. Care has been taken to preserve the integrity of the text.
