If you want a lifelong marriage, get this book!

As a life long marriage counselor, Steve Arterburn developed this book to help people find their mate and develop a solid relationship that will last a lifetime. This is not a book of lists that couples work through so that they get to know each other better, this is a series of dates for the couple to go on where they learn more about each other. He begins by suggesting that the couple look around at others prior to making a commitment, to make sure that they haven't just fallen into a relationship by just getting comfortable with each other. He suggests ways to meet new people, and activities, calling these meetings Take-A-Break Dates. He says that a person should date at least twenty people before making a commitment to one person. He gives a list of the type of people you should avoid when dating. Then once you have decided on a particular person, he moves to ten dates with a specific agenda. Each date `gives you and your potential mate a change to experience each other in not-so-ordinary settings that provide extraordinary insight into each other." The dates occur in different settings that allow the participants to have experiences that potentially duplicate stress situations that might occur in a marriage and potentially cause a rift. This way, the couple encounters problems prior to marriage.

I love this book. I will definitely purchase one for my daughters. I think that if a couple seriously commits to working through this book, they will develop a stronger marriage that has a greater potential to last a lifetime. Every person that would like to have a lifelong committed relationship should read this book.

I bought this book for my grand daughter who was serious about a certain young man. Apparently, it is very good because she is no longer involved with him. I did not have to say anything. Amen.

Great book! For a single guy who is frustrated with dating and trying to do it Gods way, I highly recommmend this book, I think if more people approached dating this way there would be alot less divorce in the country!! Great read for college students to adults!

It is this painful journey, of 'connecting the dots' of child abuse and bad choices, that I write of in Therapy Poetry: From The Notebook of a Child Abuse Survivor. Some of the poems in this book are urban or street genre specific to the Seventies, as some portions were written about my life as a teenager, before I became a born-again Christian. It is not a family-oriented book, and I don't recommend it as reading material for children.

About the Author
Clara B. Ray is an indie author and poet, who has been writing poetry for about three years. She grew up in rural Ardmore, Oklahoma, as Clara Finley, is 54 years old, and currently resides in Oklahoma City. Clara gained valuable experience and media exposure as a writer and speaker, while serving as a volunteer victim advocate for the Oklahoma City YWCA Crisis Intervention Center & Battered Women's Shelter. She is an adult survivor of paternal child abuse, who witnessed her mother endure domestic violence. She cherished being the media relations person present in 1991, as the mayor proclaimed October as Domestic Violence Awareness Month in Oklahoma City. Although Clara is a licensed minister, she does not occupy a pulpit at this time, nor does she plan to return to active ministry. She plans to retire soon from 25 years of employment with the State of Oklahoma. Therapy Poetry is her third book.

Great read

"Therapy Poetry" is a book of poems and short stories describing parts of Clara B. Ray's life during her childhood, teen years, and adult life. It is a short book, but I enjoyed reading every word in it, and I believe Clara showed excellent skills in writing, editing, and formatting her book. I felt much sorrow for Clara, her siblings, and her mother, Lucille, as I read about the terrible abuse they suffered. We all hear about abuse on the news every day, but until we read a book like "Therapy Poetry", we do not realize the full extent of the abuse, both mentally and physically. There are many laws pertaining to abuse in the USA, but they do little good unless they are strictly enforced. No one should have to suffer abuse. I am very glad Clara eventually sought therapy to overcome the mental affects the abuse had left on her, and I am thankful that she spreads the word about abuse with her writing skills. To me, Clara is a remarkable woman for being able to overcome her terrible childhood years and to go on with her adult life. I believe everybody would benefit, in one way or another, from reading "Therapy Poetry". I recommend the book. My wife read "Therapy Poetry" the day before I did, and she also recommends it.

Strength!

I love to connect with a book. When I can smile, laugh, get angry, scared or cry with the writer/poet. When I feel the flow of all that's, given poured into the work, and I'm able to see the poet's soul. That's what I've gotten from Clara B. Ray's Therapy Poetry. Ray's poems and prose invite her audience to live the life that she's lived through. From a little child on up, I could more than imagine the abuse and pain that she endured.

Ray's mastery of language is impressive. I am a lover of words - their tones, feel and the visuals they inspire. She fed my needs to visualize her experience, although it was quite painful. Ray chronicles her time from childhood to the present day, laying out the insecurities, uncertainties, and questioning why. I felt a big part of this therapy was attempting to come to grips with being an abused child. Abuse is complicated enough, but fathers are supposed to love their daughters and cherish them. They are not supposed to cause them harm. On the pages, Ray's hurt is so strong. Her pain goes against what I've experienced in my own life, yet I'm still taken down this road of despair along with her. And though she sets so much out for her audience, I appreciate the fact that she also offers explanations and analysis.

Clara B. Ray's style of incorporating her poetry with narratives, explaining what she gathered from each experience was awesome. To me, that says that she was not a victim. Not to trivialize her experiences, but I think it's a wonderful thing that she was able to dissect and work through her abuse, the choices that she made from her abuse and even her role as adult/mother. Therapy Poetry is a powerful tool for not only survivors of abuse, but those that are currently living the life as well. Great job Ms. Ray.

I loved this book of poetry poems! I purchased it a couple of days ago and now I'm done. I read it with ease and the poems in this book is beautiful and will relax your mind. They are filled with emotion. I read them while I was drinking coffee and in my spare time. I will be purchasing more books from this author in the future!

probably the most misunderstood novel ever written

This novel is misunderstood, both by the pedophile minority and the normophile majority, as glorifying sexual attraction to children. That it assuredly does not do. On the contrary, the protagonist undergoes an Epiphany and recognizes his mistakes. In the first half of the book, Humbert criticizes every adult he meets. For the second half, he discontinues this pattern.
Nabokov was decades ahead of the professional writers on the subject. He commits rationalizations which de Young commented on in 1982. He comments on "blurred boyish blondes in faded slacks" and his love-object's "beautiful boy-knees" and "blurred boyish blondes in faded slacks." In 1962, Fitch was the first professional writer to comment on pedophiles' preference for androgynous children.
Our hero also ascribes magical powers to himself and those like him. He thereby jumps the gun on "A Study of the Child Molester," which was published in 1984.
Most significantly, he shows the tendency of pedophiles to idealize their subjects. The first professional writers to comment on pedophiles idealizing children were McCormack & Selvaggio (1889) and Segal & Stermac (1990). Humbert opens his testimony with "Lolita, light of my life, fire of my lions" and finally regrets pursuing "the great resegray never-to-be-had."

Racism in Canada

This is a blend of history, sociology and demographics by Professor Peter S. Li. The theme is racism in Canada against the Chinese, particularly institutional racism from about 1850-1950, and brought up to date to the 1990's. How unusual that a study heavy in footnotes and academic references, quotations and statistical tables should read like a popular magazine article. The research is meticulous much of the evidence from government sources such as the Royal Commission on Chinese Immigration (1885), the obvious anti-oriental legislation and studies by other scholars. Sources are cited, for example, the myth and reality of the traditional Chinese family is supported by a dozen footnotes. The contents are:

(1) Thorny questions & conceptual biases
(2) Chinese emigration
(3) Racism against the Chinese
(4) Occupations & ethnic business
(5) Marriage & the family
(6) Community organizations & social life
(7) Chinese immigration to Canada
(8) Contemporary Chinese-Canadians

I also recommend the pictorial general history with text, Paul Yee's "Saltwater City an illustrated history of the Chinese in Vancouver." (c. 2006)

About the Author
Special Agent Kevin Crane (retired) grew up in a small Catskills Mts. town called Hancock, NY. He attended The Pennsylvania State University where he earned his BA in Pre Law. Kevin spent his first year after graduating college working at Bamberger’s Dept. Store (now Macy’s) in Springfield, PA, as an under-cover security officer while learning to be a junior manager. He then accepted an offer from the I.E. DuPont Company in Wilmington, DE, where he worked for a year in corporate security. In 1985 he began his career as a U.S. Special Agent with the Defense Investigative Service which later became the Defense Security Service and finally the Federal Investigative Service under the Office of Personnel Management. During his 21 years of service to our country, Kevin conducted thousands of in-depth investigations for U.S. government security clearances. These investigations included interviewing over 10,000 references and subjects of investigation as well as thousands of financial, criminal, employment, educational, and medical records. During his career, Kevin has investigated every possible issue that the U.S. government covers and that you, the reader, may encounter during your security clearance process. Prior to his retirement in 2006, Kevin had worked eight years as an Assistant Special Agent in Charge of the Wrightstown, NJ, Investigative Field Office. He has been a long time member of the Fraternal Order of Police, 1st Federal Lodge, Philadelphia, PA. Kevin has practiced martial arts for 37 years, holds the rank of 3rd Degree Black Belt in the Korean style of Tang Soo Do, is a national certified AAU Taekwondo coach and referee, and is certified as an anti-child abduction instructor. He has taught thousands of students karate over the years to include community service work in 10 free anti-bully clubs he implemented for two local school districts. During his tenure as a federal agent, he also founded and was director of a non-profit agency to help the homebound and aging population by doing daily well-being checks. In addition to his public speaking engagements over the last 25 years, Kevin and his wife Phyllis currently own and operate a large child care center with over 200 children and a staff of 50.

A colleague suggested I read this book after we encountered yet another recent graduate visit us with concerns about a government job they did not get offered and thought they had "locked in" after graduation from an successful university career- something from their interview, application or otherwise kicked up concern "at this time". I used to feel helpless on how to advise our students... not anymore! Thank you Kevin for your easy to follow tips and strategies in communicating your story. There is no tricking the system here, it is first hand knowledge on knowing what to say when... excellent read for anyone who advises youth on careers. Well written and concise!!!

A must have reference guide for every job seeker!

A must read for those folks seeking local, state, federal government work. I easily comprehended and follow Kevin's five facts along with step by step guidance on how to apply for a U.S. federal security clearance - he takes the fear and hassle out of it this process. Kevin provides real life examples in every chapter. Also, statistics in and about every chapter's topic, with a touch of humor! I didn't know there was a difference regarding potential incomes for people with and without a security clearance - being a person with a level 1 U.S. security clearance myself, I understand now!

Must have for anyone looking to obtain a security clearance

As a current student who is hoping to pursue a career in which I will need a security clearance, this book was recommended to me by one of my professors. In Access Granted, Kevin Crane provided a simple easy to read guideline that makes the process easier. He provides information on what types of clearance there are, how to obtain them, and helps to give instruction for every step of the way. I will definitely use and reuse this book to help me obtain my security clearance.
